  1. State Parks in Florida are a bargain - especially during the winter months. Here's a list I've stayed at with feedback. Website is www.floridastateparks.org
Manatee Springs - Chiefland - great facility. Manatee winter here. Kayak access to Suwannee River. Popular scuba diving location. Sites are fairly large with privacy. Nice day trip to Cedar Key.
Lake Louisa - Clermont - great facility. Sites are large and level but little vegetation. Orange blossoms scent filled the air. Easy trip to Orlando area but not as congested.
Collier-Seminole - Naples - okay for overnight. Sites were small and very close together. Good location to start trip to Everglades.
Jonathan Dickinson - Hobe Sound - facility rebuilt after hurricane and wild fires. New section had no shade trees or vegetation. Sites were huge and nicely spaced with vegetation to offer privacy. Great location and lots to explore both off and on the water.

  2. Ft DeSoto County Park - Tierra Verde

Very nice county park. Separate area for pets. Site was large and level with plenty of vegetation for privacy. Lots of sites on water. Good walking/bike paths. WiFi at office. Easy access to Gulf. A little pricey - firewood was expensive and you had to rent a fire ring. Had never seen that before. There are plenty of kayaking spots too.

  3. Lazy Lakes RV Resort - Sugarloaf Key
    http://www.lazylakeskeyscamping.com/index.html
Private campground on Sugarloaf Key - convenient to Key West and points north. State Parks fill up quickly in the winter and this was reasonable (of course prices have increased since my visit) for my first visit to the Keys. Facilities were always clean and they had pot luck dinners to enjoy - with local entertainment. Lots of fun!

  4. I was at Ft. DeSoto and the people were fabulous, I had a problem with a tree and they helped me. The people got my Chinook taken care of protecting it from further damage. Then they got me safe in my Chinook with power for the night. Great people!

  5. Trimble Park is a small county park just south of downtown Mt. Dora, FL. I can't say enough good about it! With a senior (55) discount, it is only $17.25/night for a level gravel site with electric and water, patio w/picnic table, a fire ring with wooden benches, in an absolutely beautiful park which is situated on a small strip of land between two lakes. The bathhouse was very clean and the grounds well maintained. There are only a dozen RV sites, so reservations are recommended.

  6. Another great State Park to try
Anastasia State Park-St Augustine, FL is a gem. The sites are fairly private and vary in size. Only water and electric hookups, right near the beach with great roads to walk and bike on. I found two trails - one was a marked nature trail, the other was a nice path that followed the park boundary. A real nice farmer's market on Saturday morning with good selection of vendors. Very convenient to St Augustine and I spent part of everyday exploring it. It's a very easy town to walk around but I get the feeling it has become a tourist trap town and the history is getting lost to the almighty dollar. Lots of stores with typical tourist 'treasures', plenty of restaurants to choose from and a fine winery for free tour and tasting. I'm glad I visited the area and would stay at the SP again but I don't feel the need to spend any more time in the town.

  7. Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park - Crystal River, FL
http://www.rockcrushercanyon.com/ is a great park to stay at in this area. It's convenient to the Homossas Springs area along with points north and south. Lots of outdoor activities - kayaking was my number one here - and so many places to explore. This is my 3rd trip to the area and I know I will be back again. Rock Crusher will be my RV location next time as well.

  8. Ochlockonee River State Park, Sopchoppy, FL
    www.floridastateparks.org/OCHLOCKONEERIVER

Spent 3 nights at this park. Park was spotless clean - they raked the sites after each occupant. My only complaint - and the park can not control this - were the no se-ums. They were out in full force and hungry! I had a nice day trip to St Marks Nature Refuge - great place for birding and saw some gators and a nice day trip to Apalachicola for some window shopping and a great Oyster PoBoy. This is oyster country!

  10. Withlacoochee State Forest - Holder Mine Campground. About 27 sites, concrete pads, W&E, Dump Station, super clean bathhouse. Some shaded sites, pavilion. Road is a little rough going in, just take it slow.
