Berea, KY Artisan Center. A great place to view original art, metal sculpture, pottery, and glass in a beautiful facility with all facilities. Stop for a break or spend time in town touring the artists studios.
Nolin Lake State Park, 2998 Briar Creek Road Mammoth Cave, KY 42259 parks.ky.gov/parks/recreationparks/nolin-lake/default.aspx This is a great little park with only 32 sites. Water and electric only. They delivered firewood to my campsite and stacked it for me. The facilities were always clean, the sites were level and nicely spaced. Mammoth Cave National Park is about 1 hour drive and well worth it. I took the 4 hour 4 mile tour (had lunch in the cave!) and it was very interesting. Would like to visit again. Lots of Abraham Lincoln history in this part of the country and of course Kentucky bourbon and horses. Beautiful countryside to explore.
Paintsville Lake State Park, 1551 Ky 2275 Staffordsville, KY 41256 parks.ky.gov/parks/recreationparks/paintsville-lake/default.aspx Small campground by a lovely lake - popular for fishing/boating. Marina area had a lot of houseboats docked there. Sites were nicely spaced and level. I was there Halloween weekend one year and the campers really decorated the place for the spooks and goblins. Campground facilities were very clean. There was a Mountain Homeplace park nearby that was fun - lots of farm animals there. Buildings were closed but they were having a Halloween festival so grounds were decorated for a ghost walk.
John James Audubon State Park was a wonderful park with beautiful grounds and museum filled with history and paintings of Audubon. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here.
