Shenandoah National Park 3655 US Hwy 211 East Luray, VA 22835 (540) 999-3500 www.nps.gov/shen/ This is a beautiful park and we stayed at Big Meadow Campground. Lots of wildlife and the Appalachian Trail runs along the edge of the campground. During the summer there are very good Ranger programs good for adults and children.
We liked this park, too. It was an easy walk down to the lake which was very pretty. Nice private showers. If you have pets, Virginia State Parks charge $5.00 per night per pet, so that can get a little pricey.
Spent 3 nights at Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park. Enjoyed seeing the snow leftover from the storm. Lots of deer walking through the campground. It was busy for early November - mostly tent campers braving the below freezing temps at night. Convenient to Harrisonburg and JMU.

We stayed in Shenandoah on our way to and then from the D.C. Rally. It is a beautiful park. We enjoyed all the hiking trails. Hope to go back soon.

Terry started a campaign on Rv net about this and it took off and was rescinded by legislature so no charge now for pets in VA State Parks!
